The Premise
This is an individual game (as in no Tribes) and each player is a 'link' in a chain. Every week (or so) we'll be having a contest to see who will be Chain Leader. That person will start off the Chain Breaking Ceremony. They will pick one person to be saved from elimination. That person will pick another person to be saved, and so on, until only one person is left. That person is eliminated from the game.
When we reach 9 players, eliminated links become part of the Jury which will decide which of the two last players will win.
The Catch!
Sounds easy? Don't be fooled! The catch is there are certain people that you will NOT be allowed to pick on certain weeks. Every week except the first and the week with the Final Three will feature at least one such restriction. The basic rule is that you can not pick the same person for back-to-back-weeks. So, if you picked Bob for the Week 2, you couldn't pick Bob for Week 3, but you could again for Week 4. Other rules include:
-Ultra-Restriction Week, where you cannot pick the person that picked you or the person that you picked last week.
-Basic Squared, where you cannot pick the person that you picked last week or the week before that.
-Reverse Basic, where you cannot pick the person that picked you last week
This lends itself to some strategy, because the person that was picked last could, in most cases, pick anybody! He or she didn't get to save anyone. Another cruel piece of strategic advice portrayed in an example.
Some week: Basic: Isabel picks George picks Bill picks Sarah picks Ollie, Yvonne is out.
Week after: Basic: Sarah picks Bill. Bill can choose any remaining player, as the person he is restricted to pick is already safe and can't be chosen anyway. However, he knows that if he chooses Isabel, George will automatically be out because Isabel is restricted to pick him again. Ollie could save Isabel or George and George could save Isabel or Ollie. Bill decides to pick Isabel. Isabel must pick Ollie, and George is eliminated. Just like that.
The Challenges
There are two challenges, the weekly Chain Leader Challenge and the occasional Reward. Challenges are very important as the winner is automatically safe and starts the picking. To keep a variety of Chain Leaders, you can't participate in a challenge if you won the previous one.
Rewards vary a bit in their strategic importance. They may allow you to know what the rule for upcoming week is or give you some bonuses for Chain Leader Challenges. If you win a reward, you will not be eligible for ANY future Reward Challenges.
